The Cost of Conformity

Most of us try to do and say the so-called right things. We do our best to “fit in” as society often asks of us because on the surface, it appears to be the simplest route.

But “going with the flow” isn’t easygoing when the flow has no actual fluidity. External dictates are rigid and leave little to no room for individual expression.

We think we want to “fit in” but what we really crave is acceptance. The difference is that the latter allows for the truest expression of yourself.

We want to belong but we want to do so as we are. Beware anything that asks differently of you. The cost of conformity is too high.

Tweet this: To conform is to abandon your truth.

  1. The one thing I love most about the people in my life is that they accept me for being me. They know and appreciate that I am an individual who loves them as they are, and so prefers to be loved as I am. Because of this exchange of being not “twins” but our individual selves, we all thrive in the relationship.
